Jagan Moh​an Reddy Announces 2027 Padayatra to Call Out Coalition Shortcomings

On Wednesday, YSR Congress Party spokesperson Konda Rajeev told reporters that chief minister‑designate YS Jagan Moh​an Reddy is gearing up for a massive padayatra sometime in September or October 2027. The walk‑athon, he said, isn’t just a rally‑call; it’s meant to lay bare what the party describes as the coalition’s administrative lapses, broken election pledges and alleged graft.

According to the spokesperson, the journey will take the chief minister‑candidate to the farthest corners of the state – villages, towns and city suburbs – so he can “listen to the ground‑level realities” that, in the party’s view, the current government has ignored. “People are facing real problems,” Rajeev added, “and this padayatra will give them a direct line to the leadership.”

The YSRCP is pointing especially to the so‑called ‘Super Six’ schemes that were front‑and‑center in the 2024 election manifestos of the coalition partners. Those promises – ranging from youth employment drives and women‑welfare initiatives to farmer‑support measures – are, the party claims, largely unfulfilled. “The promises remain on paper while ordinary citizens grapple with everyday hardships,” Rajeev warned.

Reddy is not new to walking for a cause. He previously undertook a similar padayatra that earned him both praise and criticism. This time, however, the narrative is being framed as a “journey to listen,” not merely a political stunt. “It’s about hearing the people’s voice, highlighting ignored issues, and holding the government accountable,” the spokesperson emphasized.

Beyond the political messaging, the trek is also seen as a way for the YSRCP to rebuild its grassroots network after its setback in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. Direct contact with voters, Rajeev suggested, could help the party “re‑energise its cadre and reconnect with the electorate.”

Details such as the exact route, the length of the walk and the official launch date have not yet been disclosed. What is clear, however, is that the party intends to use the padayatra as a platform to challenge the ruling coalition and to remind voters of promises that, in its view, remain unkept.
