Israeli Minister Threatens Full‑Scale War After West Bank Stabbing

On Monday, a 19‑year‑old Israeli settler was stabbed multiple times in an illegal outpost close to the Palestinian village of Usarin, in the Nablus governorate of the occupied West Bank. The attack left the young man gravely injured; he was whisked away by helicopter to a nearby hospital, where doctors say his condition remains serious.

According to Israeli Army Radio, the suspect – a Palestinian man – fled the scene in a vehicle. Soldiers quickly launched a search, and after a brief pursuit the suspect was shot dead, allegedly after he tried to stab the soldiers.

The incident sparked a rapid security clampdown. Several nearby Palestinian villages were placed under lockdown, residents reporting roadblocks and a heavy presence of Israeli troops.

Defence Minister Israel Katz, who was preparing to meet his British and French counterparts in Jerusalem, reacted forcefully. He warned that if the Palestinian Authority’s security forces "initiate, or we know with certainty that they are about to initiate, a terror attack in the style of October 7 against Israeli forces and Jewish settlements," then Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and he have instructed the military to "prepare for the opening of a full‑scale war."

Katz’s statement came against a backdrop of an escalating wave of settler‑led attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank, which Israeli officials have said could spiral into broader unrest if left unchecked.

The stabbing, and the harsh response it provoked, underscore the volatile and often tragic reality of daily life in the occupied territories, where each flash of violence threatens to ignite a much larger conflagration.
