IPFT Announces Formation of 15 Village Committees under NDA Seat‑Sharing Arrangement

IPFT to set up 15 village committees as part of seat‑sharing pact with NDA allies

At a seminar in Agartala, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura unveiled plans to create 15 new village committees, tighten its grassroots network and begin talks with NDA partners for the 2028 Assembly elections.

On October 11, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) gathered at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala for a modest‑sized seminar‑cum‑felicitation. The event, attended by senior leader and minister Sukla Charan Noatia, served a double purpose – to salute the party’s recent village‑committee winners and to map out the next steps in its political roadmap.

During the gathering, Noatia announced that the IPFT will establish fifteen fresh village committees. These bodies will be created under a seat‑sharing understanding with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the coalition that currently backs the party in Tripura’s state government. The move is being framed as a way to deepen the party’s presence at the grassroots, especially after the festive bustle of the Puja season.

While the exact contours of the seat‑sharing formula for the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections were not disclosed, Noatia emphasized that the party will “consult closely with our NDA partners and our own state‑committee leaders” before any final decisions are taken. He reminded listeners of the historic 2018 alliance with the BJP that ended a quarter‑century of uninterrupted rule by the former government, a partnership that helped the NDA return to power in 2023.

The seminar also doubled as a platform to recognize the hard‑won victories of IPFT candidates in the recent village‑committee and TTAADC elections. Winners were invited on stage, thanked, and urged to keep the momentum going. Those who fell short were also called upon, with Noatia stressing that every candidate, win or lose, remains a valuable part of the party’s broader movement.

Looking ahead, the IPFT said it will intensify organisational activities across the district, subdivision and block levels once the Durga Puja celebrations wind down. Leaders are expected to stay active in their respective constituencies, organising rallies, meetings and outreach programmes aimed at expanding the party’s reach among tribal and non‑tribal voters alike.

In addition to the structural plans, Noatia used the occasion to wish the people of Tripala a peaceful Durga Puja, Diwali and Lakshmi Puja. He appealed for harmony, hoping that the festivals would be celebrated without any untoward incidents, and that the spirit of togetherness would echo across the state.

In short, the IPFT’s strategy appears to be a three‑pronged one: cement the grassroots through new village committees, keep the NDA alliance warm for the 2028 elections, and ride the goodwill generated by the festive season to bolster its political capital.
