Inside the Donor Call: Lindy Li Says Kamala Harris Was Positioning Herself Before Biden’s Exit

When the 2024 presidential season started to wobble, a handful of insiders were already whispering that the campaign’s end was near. One of those insiders, Lindy Li, walked away from the Democratic National Committee and now says she saw the very last act of a political charade.

Li, who spent years raising money for both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, told Fox News Digital that Harris held a private donor call on July 19, 2024. In that call she “reassured” the country’s wealthiest supporters that Biden would stay in the race until the very end.

“It felt like a rehearsal,” Li recalled. “She’d say, ‘We’re with Joe, we’re not talking about any other plans,’ while silently eyeing the same donors she’d later try to recruit for herself.”

The timing is uncanny. Two days later—on July 21—Biden announced he would not seek a second term. According to Li, Harris pivoted immediately, launching what Li describes as a “24‑hour charm offensive.” She flooded the same donors with flattery, hints that Biden was secretly backing her, and promises of a seamless transition.

“She was flat‑out flattering people left and right,” Li said, adding that Harris even suggested Biden’s endorsement was already in place, despite the president’s reluctance to name a successor at that point.

Li’s new book, Unburdened, dives deeper into those moments, painting a picture of a campaign team that saw the writing on the wall after a disastrous debate and chose to stay quiet. “Many of us had group chats where we said, ‘This is a waste of time, it’s a charade,’” Li explained. “The donors knew something was off, but they were being sold a narrative that didn’t match reality.”

When asked about the reaction of the donors, Li noted a split. Some rolled with the flow, hoping to stay in the president’s good graces; others felt insulted, realizing they’d been told a lie about Biden’s health and viability.

“It was insulting,” she summed up, echoing the sentiment she heard in the back‑room conversations.
