Indiranagar Night Drama: Man's Drunken Defiance Leads to Arrest and Vehicle Seizure

A routine late-night traffic check in Bengaluru's bustling Indiranagar area escalated into a dramatic standoff on Saturday, September 9, 2023, culminating in the arrest of a 27-year-old man. The incident, which unfolded around 1:30 AM on the popular 100 Feet Road, saw Abhishek Singh, driving a Maruti Brezza, refusing a breathalyser test, allegedly misbehaving with law enforcement officials, and making a desperate attempt to flee the scene.

According to reports from the Indiranagar traffic police, Singh was initially flagged down as part of an ongoing city-wide crackdown on drunken driving.

What should have been a standard procedure quickly turned contentious. When officers requested him to undergo a breathalyser test, Singh reportedly grew aggressive, not only refusing the test but also engaging in verbal misconduct with the officers present.

The situation intensified when, amidst the confrontation, Singh abruptly restarted his vehicle and attempted to make a swift escape.

His rash driving endangered both the officers and other road users in the vicinity. However, the quick-thinking police personnel acted decisively, managing to intercept his vehicle before he could get away, bringing the brief but tense chase to an end.

Following his capture, Abhishek Singh was immediately taken into custody.

The Indiranagar traffic police have registered a case against him under several stringent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Motor Vehicles Act. He faces charges under IPC Section 353, pertaining to assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, and IPC Section 279 for rash driving or riding on a public way.

Additionally, a specific section under the Motor Vehicles Act has been invoked for his refusal to undergo the mandatory breathalyser test.

Authorities also seized Singh's Maruti Brezza as part of the legal proceedings. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the Bengaluru police's unwavering commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring road safety, particularly in curbing the menace of drunken driving.

The stern action taken against Singh underscores that defiance and obstruction of duty will not be tolerated, sending a clear message to those who might consider flouting the law.
