India Rallies Germany's Support to Accelerate Pivotal EU Trade Negotiations

India is actively seeking Germany's crucial backing to fast-track its ongoing free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations with the European Union. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar articulated this strategic appeal, highlighting Germany's significant influence within the EU bloc. His remarks came during a productive bilateral meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, held on the sidelines of the prestigious Munich Security Conference (MSC).

During their discussions, Jaishankar underscored the profound importance of the India-EU FTA, viewing it as a cornerstone for enhancing economic ties and opening new avenues for prosperity.

Jaishankar later conveyed his appreciation for the meeting via a post on 'X', stating, "Began my Munich Security Conference engagements with a meeting with German Foreign Minister @ABaerbock.

Discussed the Ukraine conflict, Gaza developments and the Indo-Pacific. Appreciated German support for India’s FTA negotiations with the EU. Also exchanged views on strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in new domains." This public statement further solidified India's reliance on Germany's influence in the EU context.

The push for an expedited FTA is part of India's broader strategy to forge stronger economic partnerships globally, especially with key economic powerhouses like the EU.
