India clinches top spot at Ahmedabad’s Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships, bagging three golds, five silvers and five bronzes
On home soil in Ahmedabad, Indian cue‑sports athletes secured a total of 13 medals – three gold, five silver and five bronze – to finish first at the Commonwealth Championships.
Ahmedabad’s Veer Savarkar Sports Complex was buzzing this weekend as the Commonwealth Cue Sports Championships wrapped up, and the Indian contingent walked away as clear winners. With a haul of 13 medals – three glittering golds, five silvers and five bronzes – the host nation proved its depth across snooker, billiards and the newer Heyball discipline.
The event, organised by the Billiards & Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) and endorsed by the World Confederation of Billiards Sports and Commonwealth Sport, attracted 144 players from more than 40 countries. The ceremony was graced by Indian Olympic Association President Dr P.T. Usha, who took the stage as chief guest to hand out the medals.
India’s gold‑medal tally was topped by a stellar performance in men’s snooker. Aditya Snehal Mehta breezed through the final, beating fellow Indian Dhvaj Haria 3‑0 in an all‑Indian showdown. Haria, however, was not left empty‑handed; he secured silver after the loss.
On the women’s side, Anupama Ramachandran seized gold in English billiards, edging out teammate Revanna Umadevi 1‑0 in a tightly contested final. The men’s English billiards crown also stayed home, with Rayaan Razmi defeating Siddharth Sailesh Parikh in another all‑Indian final.
Beyond the golds, India collected a string of silvers and bronzes. In men’s snooker, Laxman Singh Rawat grabbed bronze alongside Sri Lanka’s Mohamed Thaha Irshath. The women’s snooker squad added silver (Keerthana Pandian) and two bronzes (Ishika Shah and Shruthi Lakshminarayanan) after a tough final against Great Britain’s Rebecca Kenna.
The Heyball discipline saw Paras Gupta fall just short, losing 5‑6 to South Africa’s Jason Theron and taking home silver, while Uzair Khan earned bronze with Malaysia’s Mohd Hassan.
In 10‑Ball Pool, India’s Divya Sharma captured bronze in the men’s event, sharing the podium with Great Britain’s Paddy McLoughlin. The women’s 10‑Ball titles were clinched by Australia’s Meng‑Hsia Hung, with Singapore’s Neo Yue Xuan and Canada’s Nathalle Chabot taking bronze.
Great Britain dominated several other categories – women’s snooker, men’s blackball, and women’s Heyball – but the Indian team’s consistent presence in finals across multiple cue‑sports underscored a growing strength on the international stage.
This was the first time the multi‑discipline Commonwealth Championships were hosted in India, coinciding with the BSFI’s centenary celebrations. The success on home ground not only adds to India’s sporting résumé but also signals a bright future for cue‑sports talent emerging across the country.
