Impending Light Rain, Lightning and Thunder Expected Across 13 Odisha Districts Within the Next Few Hours

At about 11:15 am today, the Meteorological Centre of Bhubaneswar released a now‑cast alert warning residents that the skies are likely to open up with light to moderate rain, occasional lightning and some rumbling thunder. It’s not a full‑blown storm, but the kind of weather that can catch you off‑guard if you’re out and about.

The advisory zeroes in on a spread of districts – Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Nuapada, Balangir, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam and Khandamal – where the conditions are expected to materialise in one or two spots during the next three hours.

In plain language, you might see a brief drizzle followed by a flash of lightning, then the low‑grade rumble of thunder. It’s the sort of “quick‑burst” weather that tends to be brief but can be a little unsettling, especially for commuters and farmers.

Officials are urging people to keep an eye on local updates, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and, if you’re driving, to take extra caution on the roads – wet surfaces can be slippery and sudden lightning can be a hazard.

For those in the listed districts, the best bet is to stay indoors if you can, secure any loose items that might be tossed by gusty winds, and have a flashlight handy in case the power flickers. And, of course, just listen to the weather updates on radio or your phone – they’ll let you know if the situation worsens.

While the forecast isn’t predicting a major deluge, it’s always better to be prepared. A little rain, a flash of lightning, and a distant thunderclap can quickly turn a calm afternoon into a memorable one.
