IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Across Jharkhand Until August 6

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) rolled out a yellow‑level weather alert on Sunday, signalling that much of Jharkhand will see heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next four days. In plain language, that means you’ll probably need an umbrella – and maybe a sturdy one – if you’re stepping out between August 3 and August 6.

According to the latest IMD bulletin, the north‑western districts of Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra and Latehar are slated to get the first big hits on Tuesday. The central belt – Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ramgarh and Bokaro – isn’t far behind, with similar deluges expected the same day.

Come Wednesday, the rain train rolls into the northeastern corner, covering Deoghar, Jamtara, Dumka, Pakur, Godda and Sahibganj. The southeastern districts – West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum and Seraikela‑Kharsawan – should also brace for heavy showers on that day.

Thursday’s outlook points back to the central and southern parts of the state. Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, Ranchi, Gumla and Khunti are all listed as likely to experience heavy rain, accompanied by lightning and wind gusts reaching 40‑50 km per hour.

“Cloudy conditions will dominate, with light to moderate rain across the state and isolated heavy downpours,” the bulletin reads. “Maximum temperatures will stay roughly the same for the next 24 hours, then dip by two to three degrees over the following three days.”

Deputy Director of IMD Ranchi, Abhishek Anand, reiterated the warning, saying, “We have issued a ‘yellow’ alert for isolated thunderstorms and lightning across all 24 districts for the next four days. The wind speed will be up to 40‑50 kmph, and heavy rain is likely in several districts.”

In the most recent 24‑hour period, Hazaribagh recorded the highest rainfall at 43.2 mm. Temperature-wise, Seraikela‑Kharsawan topped the chart at 36.2 °C, followed closely by Pakur (35.9 °C) and Daltonganj in Palamu (35.2 °C). Ranchi, the state capital, saw a relatively cooler high of 30.6 °C.

Residents are advised to stay updated with local weather bulletins, avoid unnecessary travel during peak downpours, and keep an eye on any further advisories from the IMD.
