IMD Issues Heatwave Alerts and Rainfall Forecast Across Northern and Western India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put out a fresh weather bulletin, and it’s not exactly a postcard‑level outlook. Across the northern belt – Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and even Jammu & Kashmir – a heatwave warning is now in force.

What does that mean for you? Basically, daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 42 °C and 45 °C in many places, with humidity stubbornly high. These rains are expected to be brief – a few millimetres here and there – but they could bring temporary relief, especially in the desert fringe of Rajasthan.

For the hill states, the scenario is a bit different. Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh might see localized thunderstorms, especially in higher elevations, where the temperature drop can be noticeable. Meanwhile, Jammu & Kashmir is bracing for a mix of sunny spells and occasional cloudbursts.

Farmers should keep an eye on soil moisture levels; the heat can stress crops, especially paddy and pulses. Irrigation schedules may need tweaking, and the brief rain bursts could help, provided they arrive in time.

Travelers are also being cautioned. Road conditions could deteriorate under high heat, especially on long stretches of highway where asphalt softens. If you’re planning a road trip, factor in extra breaks and keep your vehicle’s coolant topped up.
