Horror Unveiled: Murder Convict on Bail Kills Girlfriend in Ghastly Mumbai Crime

Mumbai has been rocked by a truly horrifying incident, as a man previously convicted for the brutal murder of his wife has once again found himself at the center of a new homicide investigation. Sandeep Gaikwad, 34, who was out on bail after serving a life sentence for the 2014 murder of his then-wife, Bharati, has now been arrested for allegedly strangling his 25-year-old live-in girlfriend, Sonali Sawant.

The tragic discovery was made at Gaikwad's residence in Pant Nagar, Ghatkopar, sending shockwaves through the community.

According to police reports, the horrifying act is believed to have occurred on the night of Saturday, November 30th. Sawant's sister reported her missing when she became unreachable, prompting a concerned search that ultimately led to the grim revelation.

Investigators stated that Gaikwad allegedly strangled Sawant to death after a heated argument.

The dispute reportedly stemmed from Gaikwad's suspicions about Sawant's fidelity, particularly after she attended a party without him. This argument, fueled by jealousy and possessiveness, escalated into the fatal confrontation that ended Sawant's young life.

Following the heinous crime, Gaikwad immediately fled the scene, attempting to evade justice.

However, vigilant police pursuit led to his apprehension in Karad, Satara district, bringing an end to his brief flight. The quick action by law enforcement ensured that the alleged perpetrator was brought into custody to face the severe charges against him.

This case draws a disturbing parallel to Gaikwad's past.

In 2014, he was found guilty of murdering his wife, Bharati Gaikwad, a crime for which he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Astonishingly, he was granted bail by the High Court in October 2023, just months before the alleged murder of Sonali Sawant. Sandeep Gaikwad and Sonali Sawant had been in a live-in relationship for approximately three to four years, during which time Sawant was reportedly unaware of Gaikwad's dark past and his prior conviction.
