HITS 17th Convocation Marks Milestone for 2,732 Graduates

Chennai – The sprawling campus of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) in Padur buzzed with pride and a touch of nervous excitement on Saturday as it hosted its 17th convocation ceremony. Presiding over the event was Justice M.M. Sundresh of the Supreme Court, who handed out the certificates with the solemnity of a judge and the warmth of a mentor. From the tech world, Gokul V. Subramaniam, President of Intel India, took the podium. He painted a picture of a world caught in a "huge paradigm shift," where deep‑tech and artificial intelligence reshape daily life. Yet he cautioned that this rapid evolution brings a "profound responsibility" toward the planet and humanity. "Technology cannot just be smart; it must be sustainable," he said, adding that speed must be paired with inclusivity.

Chancellor Anand Jacob Verghese reminded the audience that a convocation is more than a ceremony – it marks the transition from structured learning to independent responsibility. "It is a moment when personal ambition should evolve into purposeful contribution," he noted, his voice resonating with both pride and hope.

Other distinguished speakers included Vice‑Chancellor Vikas Misra, former ambassador to Ireland and the Maldives Akhilesh Mishra, and Oscar Concessao of Oscar, Ponni, Rahul Architects. Each shared anecdotes, encouragement, and a reminder that the journey ahead will demand both grit and imagination.
