Himachal Pradesh Braces for Warmer Days: IMD Forecasts Extended Dry Spell and Rising Temperatures

Himachal Pradesh is set to experience a prolonged period of dry weather as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a significant rise in maximum temperatures across the state. While most of the region enjoyed a pleasant October 3, with clear skies dominating, the forecast indicates a distinct shift towards warmer conditions with no substantial rainfall expected for at least the next seven days.

According to the latest meteorological bulletin, maximum temperatures are anticipated to climb by 2-3 degrees Celsius over the coming days.

This upward trend will be felt keenly across various districts, urging residents and visitors to prepare for the change. On October 3, Una recorded the highest temperature at 35.6 degrees Celsius, maintaining its reputation as one of the warmer pockets in the state. Other key areas also registered comfortable highs, with Shimla at 24.0 degrees, Kalpa at 21.0, Solan at 29.0, Kangra at 33.0, Bilaspur at 32.5, Hamirpur at 33.0, and Chamba at 32.0 degrees Celsius.

The current dry spell follows a period where Himachal Pradesh has already faced a substantial rainfall deficit.

Between October 1 and September 27, the state experienced 22% less rainfall than average. This deficit, combined with the ongoing dry weather, could have implications for agricultural activities and water resources in the long term.

Despite the prevailing dry outlook, isolated instances of weather activity were observed in the higher reaches during the last 24 hours, particularly between October 2 and 3.

Areas like Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and Kullu witnessed light snowfall, a brief interruption to the dominant dry pattern. However, this fresh snow is not expected to significantly alter the overall weather trend.

The IMD's forecast points to a continuation of clear skies and dry conditions throughout the week.

While a Western Disturbance is noted to be influencing the region, its impact is expected to be minimal, bringing no significant weather changes in terms of precipitation. Furthermore, specific low-lying and shaded regions are warned about the likelihood of frost formation during the early morning hours, adding another layer to the diverse weather conditions prevailing in the state.
