Heavy Rain Forces Kendrapara Schools to Shut Down on Monday

Bhubaneswar – The rain gods seem to have turned up the volume this weekend, and Kendrapara district is feeling the splash. In a move aimed at keeping everyone safe, the district administration announced that every school – both government and private – will remain shut on Monday.

The decision comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) slapped a red warning on the area, citing a depression brewing over the north‑west Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD, the system is set to intensify, dumping heavy to very heavy rain across Kendrapara on July 27. In a few spots, the downpour could be “extremely heavy,” which is meteorologist‑speak for “expect puddles that turn into small lakes.”

Officials say the closure is purely a safety precaution. Parents, teachers and school managements have been urged to keep children indoors, avoid low‑lying areas, and steer clear of any water‑logged roads that might appear.

The red warning also flags possible water‑logging, traffic snarls and reduced visibility. Emergency teams are on standby, ready to respond if the rain throws any curveballs.
