Heart-Wrenching Tragedy on NH-75: Five Lives Lost in Devastating Head-on Crash

It was a scene no one ever wants to imagine, let alone witness. Late Tuesday night, a truly heartbreaking incident unfolded on National Highway 75, specifically near Chikkahalli in Hiriyur taluk, deep within Karnataka's Chitradurga district. Picture this: a speeding car, packed with five souls, suddenly veered out of control, leaping over the median strip like a rogue projectile. In an instant, it slammed head-on into a KSRTC bus coming from the opposite direction. The sheer force of that collision, I mean, it was absolutely devastating. All five people inside the car – every single one – lost their lives right there on the spot. And as if that wasn't enough tragedy, many passengers on the bus were also left injured, adding a layer of sorrow to an already grim situation.

The lives cut short belonged to a group from Shivamogga. They were identified as Chandru, who was reportedly driving the ill-fated vehicle, along with Manjula, Ranjith, Sanjith, and Poojitha. It’s truly devastating to think they were just returning home, having completed a pilgrimage to the sacred Adichunchanagiri Temple. What should have been a spiritual, perhaps reflective, journey back turned into an unimaginable tragedy for their families, leaving behind an enormous void.

The KSRTC bus, a public transport lifeline, was on its regular route, traveling from Ballari to Bengaluru when it was struck. The impact was so severe that roughly 15 to 20 passengers on board sustained various injuries. While thankfully not life-threatening for most, it still means pain, shock, and likely a long recovery for many. It just goes to show how quickly an ordinary journey can turn into chaos on our busy highways.

Local authorities, specifically the Hiriyur police, swiftly arrived at the scene. They had the grim task of managing the aftermath – securing the site, arranging for the injured to be rushed to nearby hospitals, and initiating the necessary procedures for the deceased.
