Heads Up, Buffalo! Metro Rail Woes Extend Through the Entire Weekend

Well, folks, it looks like the Metro Rail in Buffalo is going to be a bit tricky for a few more days than initially planned. What was hoped to be a short-lived disruption, ending by Thursday, has now, unfortunately, stretched out through the entire weekend, according to the NFTA. So, if your plans involve hopping on the train, you’ll definitely want to pay attention.

The core issue remains the same: a stubborn water main break. Because of these ongoing repairs, service is still suspended between two key stops: Fountain Plaza Station and Utica Station. That means, from Friday morning right through to Sunday, February 25th, that particular stretch of track won't be operational for regular train service. It’s certainly a bit of a headache for those who rely on this route for work, errands, or just getting around town on the weekend.

Now, nobody enjoys an unexpected delay, but thankfully, the NFTA isn't leaving commuters completely stranded. They’ve got bus shuttles ready and waiting to bridge that gap. These buses will be running between Fountain Plaza and Utica Stations, doing their best to keep everyone moving. The idea is that you'll simply catch a shuttle bus in place of the train for that segment of your journey.

This, of course, means one thing for sure: you'll need to factor in a little extra time for your travels. Swapping from a train to a bus and back again naturally adds a few minutes, so planning ahead is going to be your best friend this weekend. We all know how precious weekend time is, so give yourself a bit of a buffer, just to be safe.
