Haveri Shocker: Fake Journalist Arrested for Assaulting Woman Under Loan Pretext

In a truly disturbing incident that has sent ripples of concern through the community in Haveri, police have successfully apprehended a man who allegedly posed as a journalist to assault a 35-year-old woman. The accused, identified as Guddappa Basavannappa Kattimani, aged 29, from Kadarkoppa village, stands accused of a particularly egregious crime, exploiting a woman’s trust under the guise of helping her secure a much-needed loan.

Imagine, for a moment, the desperation and hope a person feels when seeking financial assistance. This woman, like so many others, was simply looking for a way forward, a helping hand. Kattimani, it seems, preyed on this very vulnerability. Thankfully, the Haveri Rural Police, acting swiftly upon receiving the complaint, managed to track down and arrest Kattimani. This wasn't, as it turns out, an isolated incident. Police investigations have, rather alarmingly, revealed a disturbing pattern of similar complaints against him. Indeed, it appears he has a history of committing such despicable acts across various districts in Karnataka, including Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Shivamogga, and Ballari. This isn't just one unfortunate mistake; it’s a calculated, repeated pattern of abuse and deception, using the respectable profession of journalism as a cynical shield.

Kattimani now faces serious charges under the Indian Penal Code. Specifically, he has been booked under Section 354, which pertains to assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty, and Section 506, for criminal intimidation.
