Harrowing Ordeal: 56 Indians Stranded, Forced to Endure Frigid Night on Georgian Footpath After Deportation

A distressing humanitarian crisis has unfolded in Georgia (the country, not the U.S. state) where a group of 56 Indian nationals, including vulnerable children and elderly individuals, were allegedly left stranded and forced to endure a frigid night on a cold footpath. The heart-wrenching allegations, brought to light by a woman named Neha, paint a grim picture of their plight after being deported from Mexico and subsequently denied entry into Georgia.

According to Neha, the group, comprising men, women, and young children, was abandoned for an agonizing 10 to 12 hours, shivering uncontrollably in the biting cold on the side of a road.

Videos she shared depict the harrowing conditions, showing individuals huddled together, wrapped in blankets and jackets, desperately trying to shield themselves from the freezing temperatures. The emotional toll of their ordeal is palpable, with many appearing visibly distressed and exhausted.

This unfortunate incident is the latest chapter in a perilous journey for many within the group.

Their initial aspiration was to seek a better life in the United States, a dream that led them through a convoluted and dangerous route. Originating from various parts of India, including Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, they first traveled to Turkey, then onwards to Mexico. Their ultimate goal was to illegally cross the border into the United States.

However, their attempts to enter the U.S.

were thwarted by Mexican authorities, who subsequently deported them. Instead of being sent back to India, they were put on a flight to Georgia. Upon arrival in Georgia, their hopes for a temporary respite were dashed again as local authorities denied them entry, leaving them in the agonizing limbo captured in Neha's social media posts.

The Indian Embassy in Armenia, which also oversees diplomatic relations with Georgia, has acknowledged the gravity of the situation.

They confirmed they are actively engaged with Georgian authorities to provide all necessary assistance to the stranded citizens. In a statement, the Embassy assured that they are in constant touch with both the individuals and the local government, working towards a swift and humane resolution to repatriate them safely or facilitate their onward journey, pending the complex legal and diplomatic processes involved.
