When the first whistle blows for a new NFL season, most coaches are still rubbing the sleep out of their eyes. Not Jim Harbaugh. The Chargers’ head man seems to greet Week 1 with the same manic energy he once brought to the 49ers and Michigan.

The odds are in his favor. The Cardinals have now lost nine consecutive Week 1 games, and the Chargers head into the matchup as 9.5‑point favorites on the board. San Diego’s home crowd, the buzz of the locker room, and a chip on Harbaugh’s shoulder—all the usual ingredients for a Sunday showdown.
