Gurugram Hit‑and‑Run Biker Turns Out to Be an AAP Volunteer Who Once Ran for Delhi’s Municipal Council

On a sunny Sunday on Gurugram’s busy Golf Course Road, a woman on an Aprilia RS 457 was suddenly thrown to the pavement when a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz brushed past her side. The rider, 27‑year‑old Shivani Chauhan – often called “Sia” on social media – says the driver didn’t just hit her by accident; the footage she posted suggests a purposeful strike.

What makes this story twistier than a typical road‑safety case is who Shivani is off the bike. She is an active volunteer with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and, back in 2022, she contested the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections from the Kalkaji ward on an AAP ticket. At the time she was the youngest candidate in that contest, and many in the capital remember her name.

Her election affidavit, filed when she was 23, listed total assets worth Rs 45,67,005 and no liabilities. Among the items were a 58.5‑square‑foot plot in Govind Puri, Kalkaji, bought for about Rs 35.36 lakh, cash of Rs 20,000, and bank deposits exceeding Rs 2.22 lakh. She also reported a yearly income of Rs 4,46,600 for 2021‑22 and a Bachelor of Design in Fashion Design from the Footwear Design and Development Institute.

Police investigations, spurred by the video evidence, concluded that the car’s driver deliberately swerved into Shivani’s bike after a brief altercation. Gurugram DCP (East) Sandeep Kumar said the footage clearly shows an intent to kill, prompting the addition of an attempt‑to‑murder charge (Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) along with stalking and modesty‑related offences.

The alleged perpetrator is 33‑year‑old gym owner Kalyan Bainsla, accompanied by his cousin Lovneesh. After a two‑day manhunt, both were nabbed in Rajgarh, Rajasthan. Bainsla reportedly tried to slip away by asking to use a washroom, fell, injured himself and later received first‑aid at a hospital.

Shivani has not shied away from the backlash either. When the accused’s cousin claimed she was “playing the victim card,” she fired back, reminding everyone of her political stint and saying she won’t be intimidated by online trolls. She also pressed the court to arrest the two other occupants of the car, insisting that unless they’re held accountable, such “reckless” incidents will keep happening.

As of now, Shivani is undergoing medical tests – an MRI and X‑rays – to assess the injuries she sustained. She continues to demand swift, strict action against the driver, his accomplices, and anyone who tries to downplay the gravity of the attack.
