Gunfire Echoes in a Scarborough Business Center – Police Search for Answers

On Tuesday evening, around 9:15 p.m., a series of gunshots rang out from the parking lot of a commercial complex on Midland Avenue in Scarborough. Witnesses say the noise startled shoppers and office workers, some of whom ducked for cover as the sound reverberated off the building’s concrete walls.

Police arrived within minutes, cordoning off the site with yellow tape and setting up a perimeter. Officers canvassed the area, speaking with nearby residents and business owners, but so far no one has reported being hit or injured. The building’s storefronts and the surrounding parking lot show only superficial damage – bullet holes in a few storefront windows and a few scattered shell casings.

Detectives from the Toronto Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit are now treating the incident as an ongoing investigation. "We’re looking at all possible motives, whether it’s a targeted attack, a dispute that escalated, or something else entirely," said Sergeant Lisa Patel, who is leading the inquiry. "Anyone who saw or heard anything – even something that seems insignificant – is asked to contact us as soon as possible."

The police have not identified a suspect at this time, and no weapons have been recovered on the scene. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is being reviewed, and officers are also checking the city’s traffic cameras for any clues about a vehicle that might have fled the area.

Neighbors expressed a mix of shock and concern. "It’s not something you expect to hear in a place that’s usually quiet in the evenings," said Maria Gomez, who runs a nearby boutique. "We just want everyone to be safe and for the police to find out what happened."
