Now, while the AI system is brilliant, it does have its specific requirements – mainly, uninterrupted electricity and just one person to oversee its operations at each centre. This stands in contrast to the existing, more traditional system, which relies on scientific equipment and typically requires two people for sample collection and grading, but crucially, can operate even without a constant power supply. It’s a trade-off, isn’t it, between high-tech precision and operational flexibility?
Beyond the pilot, it’s worth noting that the Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation has always maintained a robust commitment to quality across all the commodities it procures and distributes. This includes essential items like wheat, rice, paddy, bajra, jowar, ragi, tur dal, gram, groundnut oil, double-fortified salt, and white sugar (M-30). They adhere strictly to standards set by the FCI and the Central Government for MSP grains, and for many other items like pulses, edible oils, sugar, and fortified salt, their own internal standards are actually even tougher than those prescribed by FSSAI!
And when it comes to verification, they don't mess around. For items like tur dal and gram, trucks are sealed with a single-use wire seal, ensuring tamper-proof delivery. Warehouse managers collect samples, which are then 100% cross-verified at the Food Research Laboratory (FRL) by the Head Office's Quality Control branch. They use well-established analysis methods, like IS:4333 (Part I & II):2018 and IS:2813:2015, leaving absolutely no stone unturned in ensuring quality.
