Guelph Businesses Targeted in Brazen Roof Break-Ins

Imagine arriving at your business bright and early, perhaps to set up for the day, only to discover that someone has quite literally dropped in – through the ceiling, no less! That's precisely the startling scene that greeted the owners of two separate south-end Guelph establishments last Friday morning.

It was around 7 a.m. on August 30th, 2026, when the alarm was raised. What investigators found was, frankly, a rather daring and unusual method of entry. Rather than jimmying a lock or smashing a window, the culprit managed to gain access by somehow getting onto the roof, then forcing their way through a hatch and tearing down part of the ceiling below. Talk about an unexpected renovation!

Naturally, once inside, the thief wasn't just admiring the decor. From one of the targeted businesses, a considerable amount of cash and even a safe were reported stolen. The other establishment, unfortunately, wasn't spared either, with a small quantity of equipment vanishing during the overnight caper. Beyond the items pilfered, there's the sheer mess and the structural damage these businesses now have to contend with – a real headache, financially and logistically, for any entrepreneur.

Thankfully, this brazen individual didn't manage to escape entirely unseen. Security cameras at the scene did manage to capture some images of the suspect. Police describe the person as wearing a blue sweater adorned with some white writing, a pair of jeans, white shoes, and, rather distinctively, a multicoloured bandana. They were also noted to be wearing gloves, perhaps in an attempt to avoid leaving fingerprints.

The Guelph Police Service is, of course, taking this matter very seriously. Constable Meagan Lackenbauer is the lead investigator on these cases and is really hoping the community can lend a hand.
