GSRTC Overhauls Bus Passes, Offering Up to 50% Fare Relief

In a move that’s already sparking relief among daily travelers, the Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) announced a fresh bus‑pass structure that trims the price tag by as much as half. It’s a simple idea, but the impact could be pretty big for the roughly 2.5 lakh employees, students and regular commuters who rely on state buses.

Under the new scheme a monthly pass—previously priced at the equivalent of 18 days’ fare—will now cost only the fare for 15 days. In plain English: you pay for half a month, but you get a full month of unlimited rides. The same logic applies to the quarterly pass. The 90‑day ticket, once pegged to the cost of 54 days, has been knocked down to the fare for 45 days. That’s a tidy 16‑day saving every three months.

For many commuters the difference is more than just numbers on a receipt. Students juggling tuition fees, office workers stretching a modest salary, and senior citizens on fixed incomes have all welcomed the change. “It makes my daily trek to college much easier on the wallet,” one student reportedly said, echoing a chorus of gratitude across social media.

GSRTC runs thousands of routes across Gujarat, ferrying around 27 lakh passengers daily. The corporation already offers a suite of concessions—for persons with disabilities, senior citizens and others—but this latest adjustment pushes affordability a step further. Officials say the aim is to make public transport a genuinely viable alternative to private vehicles, cutting congestion and pollution while easing the financial strain on regular riders.

While the revamped passes are slated to roll out immediately, the corporation cautions that the discounts apply only to eligible users—those with a valid employee, student or other recognized status. Still, with the promise of up to 50 % savings, the initiative is expected to draw even more passengers onto GSRTC’s buses, bolstering the state’s push for greener, more inclusive mobility.
