Government Bus Overturns on Thanjavur Highway, 15 Injured

Early on Thursday morning, a state‑run passenger bus veered off the road and tipped onto its side on the National Highway that connects Thanjavur with Puducherry. The sudden overturn caught many commuters off guard, and within minutes emergency crews were on the scene.

According to officials, the bus was carrying about thirty‑four passengers when it lost control, possibly due to a sharp turn or a speed‑related issue. When it rolled, fifteen people were pulled out with varying degrees of injury – some sustained bruises and minor cuts, while a few required treatment for broken bones.

Paramedics rushed to the accident spot, providing first‑aid and transporting the seriously hurt to the nearest government hospital. The injured were stabilised and admitted for further observation. Those with lighter injuries were treated on‑site and later released.

Police have sealed off the stretch of the highway to investigate the exact cause of the mishap. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have been trying to overtake another vehicle when the bus swerved, but the probe is still ongoing.
