From Moncton to Manhattan: New Brunswick Teen's Cello Dream Comes True at Carnegie Hall

A symphonic dream is set to unfold for a talented New Brunswick teenager as 17-year-old Liam MacIntosh from Moncton prepares to take center stage at one of the world's most hallowed musical venues: Carnegie Hall in New York City. The gifted cellist has received an exclusive invitation to perform at the iconic hall in February 2025, a testament to his dedication and extraordinary musical prowess.

Liam's journey to this prestigious stage began at the tender age of five when he first picked up the cello.

For twelve years, his commitment to the instrument has been unwavering, culminating in this incredible opportunity. His mother, Amy MacIntosh, shared her immense pride, describing the moment Liam received the invitation as nothing short of thrilling. "It's just incredible," she beamed. "It was quite a process."

The invitation comes from the highly selective "Honors Performance Series," a program renowned for identifying and showcasing exceptional student musicians from around the globe.

Thousands of talented young artists apply each year, representing all ten Canadian provinces and over 30 countries. From this vast pool, only about 150 student musicians from across Canada are ultimately chosen. Liam's acceptance into this elite group speaks volumes about his skill and artistry.

"I applied, and then I got a letter back and it said I got in," Liam recounted, his excitement palpable.

"It's really cool. I'm excited." The application process was rigorous, requiring an audition and demonstrating a high level of musical proficiency. His hard work has undoubtedly paid off, opening the doors to an experience many musicians only ever dream of.

At Carnegie Hall, Liam won't be performing solo.
