Fresno's Heart Glows: Kicking Off the Holidays with Community Cheer

Last Friday, December 1st, the heart of our city, right there at City Hall, transformed into a twinkling wonderland as we officially kicked off the holidays with the annual tree lighting ceremony.

The air on Fulton Street was absolutely buzzing with excitement, and even though there was a bit of a chill, the warmth of community spirit definitely kept everyone cozy. Mayor Jerry Dyer, looking as festive as ever, was right there to welcome everyone, really emphasizing what these moments mean for our city – bringing people together, you know? And oh, the sounds! The Fresno State University Jazz Orchestra set a wonderfully vibrant mood, their notes dancing through the evening air, preparing us all for the main event. Then, the Hoover High School Choir graced us with their beautiful voices, filling the plaza with classic holiday melodies. It truly felt like a soundtrack to the season unfolding right before our eyes, a genuine treat for the ears.

Of course, the absolute highlight, the moment everyone was waiting for, was that grand countdown. You could just feel the collective anticipation building as Mayor Dyer led the cheers, and then – poof! – the magnificent holiday tree burst into a spectacular blaze of colorful lights. It was a truly breathtaking sight, a beacon of joy and togetherness for our community, drawing gasps of delight from the crowd.
