Four Teenagers Charged After Armed Robbery Targeting Delivery Driver in Winnipeg's Unicity

Winnipeg, MB – A disturbing incident unfolded in the city’s Unicity area over the weekend, culminating in the arrest and charging of four teenagers following an armed robbery targeting a pizza delivery driver. The quick response by Winnipeg police brought a swift end to what could have been a far more dangerous situation, underscoring the serious consequences of such acts, especially when involving weapons.

The events began on Sunday evening, March 31, when a pizza delivery driver was ambushed while on duty.

As the driver completed a delivery, they were confronted by a group of individuals. In a terrifying turn, one of the suspects brandished what appeared to be a firearm, demanding the driver's belongings. The assailants managed to steal the driver’s cellphone before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim shaken but physically unharmed.

Upon receiving the distress call, Winnipeg Police Service officers immediately launched an investigation.

Through rapid information gathering and effective deployment, authorities were able to trace the suspects to a residence situated on Deer Lodge Place, not far from the scene of the crime. The presence of multiple individuals matching the descriptions provided by the victim quickly led officers to believe they had located the culprits.

As police approached the residence, two of the male teenagers attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot.

However, their escape was short-lived. Officers successfully apprehended both individuals after a brief pursuit. Simultaneously, the remaining two suspects, also male teenagers, were located and taken into custody inside the home, bringing an end to the immediate threat posed by the group.

Further investigation revealed that the weapon used in the robbery, while appearing authentic and instilling fear in the victim, was in fact a replica firearm.

Despite it not being a live weapon, the use of any item that resembles a firearm in the commission of a crime carries the same severe legal penalties and psychological impact as using a genuine one. Police consistently warn about the dangers and legal ramifications associated with replica firearms, as they are often indistinguishable from real weapons in high-stress situations.

The four teenagers, aged 13, 15, 16, and 17, are now facing a litany of serious charges.

Their collective charges include Robbery with a Firearm and Possession of a Weapon. Additionally, one of the 15-year-old suspects faces an extra charge for Possession of a Scheduled Substance. All four are being held in custody as the legal process moves forward, highlighting the gravity of their alleged actions and the commitment of law enforcement to ensure public safety.
