Forsyth County Man Charged With Murder After Wife’s Fatal Injuries

Forsyth County officials announced Monday that an 85‑year‑old man now faces murder charges after his wife was found dead at their Collins Point Road residence Sunday night. The couple, long‑time neighbors in the Cumming area, were thrust into the headlines when deputies responded to a domestic‑violence call just after 7:30 p.m.

According to the sheriff’s office, officers arrived to discover an elderly woman, later identified as 81‑year‑old Deborah Field, lying on the floor with what appeared to be several serious injuries. Paramedics rushed to the scene and began life‑saving measures, but despite their efforts Deborah was pronounced dead at the house.

Detectives did not immediately release the official cause or manner of death, leaving the community with more questions than answers. What is known is that her husband, Thomas Elliott Field, was initially detained right there on the property. After preliminary questioning, authorities decided to file formal charges of murder and aggravated assault.

Thomas Field is now being held at the Forsyth County Jail awaiting his first court appearance. The case has rattled neighbors, many of whom described the Fields as quiet, private people who kept to themselves for decades.

County officials emphasized that domestic‑violence incidents are taken very seriously, regardless of the ages of those involved. "Every call is investigated thoroughly," a spokesperson said, adding that the department will continue to work with the district attorney’s office to bring the matter to a resolution.
