Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Calls Out BJP Government Over Lack of Development in Bhiwani

Speaking to reporters in Bhiwani on Sunday, former chief minister and opposition leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda didn’t mince words. He threw down a direct challenge to the BJP government, asking Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to point out just one major project that the administration has finished in the district during the last twelve years.

“You are standing in Bhiwani. Name one work done here in 12 years. If you can, I’ll admit you’ve done a good job,” Hooda said, his tone a mixture of sarcasm and genuine frustration. He added that under the Congress rule, Haryana once topped the charts for per‑capita income and investment, a standing he claims has slipped dramatically.

The ex‑CM went on to highlight a slew of issues he says the current government has ignored. Haryana’s debt, he warned, has ballooned to about ₹5.5 lakh crore, forcing the state to borrow simply to service existing loans and interest. He also accused the BJP‑led administration of a deteriorating law‑and‑order situation, with crime rates rising and public safety eroding.

When the topic turned to farmers, Hooda knocked down the chief minister’s boast that the BJP had delivered “10‑12 times more development” and higher compensation than the previous Congress regime. He reminded the audience of the promised “doubling of farmer incomes,” and asked pointedly how many times input costs had risen in the meantime.

Employment was another hot button. Hooda criticised the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN) for offering only temporary jobs to youth, arguing that regular, permanent positions are what the state needs. He also invoked the 2014 Congress policy that regularised any employee who completed three years of service, urging the current government to revive such a scheme.

On the procedural front, Hooda raised a question about Assembly protocol, saying he was stopped from entering the House but never received a clear answer about whose orders prompted the action. He also mentioned that a notice had already been sent to INLD leader Abhay Chautala, and if required, it would be sent again.

In closing, Hooda painted a picture of a state that has lost its momentum. He said Haryana is slipping from its former “pace of development,” and the BJP must answer on debt, farmer distress, joblessness and law‑and‑order if it hopes to regain public trust.
