James Patrick joins FIOR as CTO to steer AI security strategy across cloud, edge and on‑premise environments
British AI‑security firm FIOR Group appoints former Oracle chief field architect James Patrick as Chief Technology Officer, tasking him with shaping the company’s tech roadmap and safeguarding AI deployments.
FIOR Group – the London‑based company that’s building the identity and enforcement layer for artificial intelligence – announced today that James Patrick, CITP MBCS, is stepping into the role of Chief Technology Officer.
James comes to FIOR after a long stint at Oracle UK, where he most recently served as Chief Field Architect for Defence and National Security. In that capacity he helped public‑sector, defence and security organisations across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and even Australia design and roll out secure, resilient technology architectures.
Before Oracle, he was a Principal Solutions Architect at Zaizi and, earlier still, worked inside government. He’s a Chartered IT Professional, a member of the BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT), and sits on the techUK National Security Committee – credentials that underline his deep‑rooted expertise in high‑stakes, regulated environments.
In his new role, James will own FIOR’s technology strategy, product architecture and engineering execution. The focus, he says, is on making the AI Gateway work everywhere – whether in the public cloud, on‑premise data centres, at the edge or even in disconnected, highly‑sensitive estates where you can’t just rip‑and‑replace legacy systems as AI capabilities evolve.
FIOR’s AI Gateway is essentially a security‑as‑a‑service layer that lets organisations identify and authenticate AI agents, control what those agents can do, enforce policies right at the point of action and keep a reliable audit trail. In plain English, it’s about preserving meaningful human authority while letting AI act safely and at scale.
David Williams, founder and CEO of FIOR, explained why James is a perfect fit: “James combines exceptional technical ability with a deep understanding of the environments in which security really matters. He’s spent his career untangling tough architectural problems for government, defence and national‑security customers, and he knows new tech has to play nicely with the infrastructure organisations already have.”
Williams went on, “AI agents are now writing code, running infrastructure, pulling tools, accessing data and making decisions at machine speed. Companies need more than monitoring – they need a dependable way to decide which agents to trust, what they’re allowed to do, and how to intervene when necessary. James joins us at a pivotal moment, with our technology already deployed with international partners. His appointment strengthens our ability to turn our IP and product vision into secure, scalable solutions for enterprises and governments worldwide.”
James himself is equally enthusiastic: “AI is moving from answering questions to taking actions. That shift opens huge opportunities but also fundamentally changes the security problem. FIOR tackles it at the right architectural level – providing identity, authentication and enforceable control wherever AI agents operate, be it the public cloud, on‑prem, at the edge or in isolated environments.”
He added, “Britain has made clear its ambition to lead in AI security and assurance, especially sovereign AI. I’m thrilled to join a British company with world‑beating technology, a solid patent moat and a roadmap that can support that ambition globally. My job is to help FIOR’s customers deploy wherever security, resilience and continued human authority are essential.”
The appointment comes on the back of a period of commercial and technological progress for FIOR, including collaborations with partners such as Multiverse Computing and Indus Net Technologies. James will work closely with the executive team, engineers, customers and strategic allies to push the product roadmap forward and accelerate international growth.
