Festive E‑Commerce Boom: Rs 24,000 Crore in Just Two Days

India’s online marketplaces rake in Rs 24,000 crore during the first two days of the festive season, a Redseer report shows

A fresh Redseer study reveals that Indian e‑commerce platforms generated roughly Rs 24,000 crore in sales during the opening two days of the festive shopping rush, driven largely by smartphones, electronics and fashion.

New Delhi – The festive shopping fever kicked off with a bang on Indian e‑commerce sites, which together clocked an eye‑watering Rs 24,000 crore in gross merchandise value (GMV) over just the first 48 hours. The figure, supplied by Redseer Strategy Consultants, translates to about $2.5 billion and underscores how hungry shoppers have become for deals on everything from smartphones to sofas.

Redseer says the numbers come from the big‑players – Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho and Ajio – that collectively logged more than 8‑9 crore orders. Roughly 6‑6.5 crore different consumers took part, meaning the average shopper placed more than one order in that short span.

What’s striking is the scale. The two‑day burst was almost six times the normal daily GMV that these platforms see on an average day. In other words, the festive surge is massive, not just a modest uptick.

Smartphones led the charge, contributing about 38‑40 percent of the total value – that’s roughly Rs 9,100‑9,600 crore. Brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, and Apple saw their mid‑range and flagship models fly off the virtual shelves.

Hot on their heels was consumer electronics, which made up about a quarter of the sales (Rs 6,000‑6,500 crore). Laptops, smart TVs and internet‑connected gadgets were especially popular, with electronics orders jumping to almost 14 times their usual daily volume.

Fashion didn’t lag far behind. Accounting for 15‑18 percent of the GMV, apparel generated an estimated Rs 3,630‑4,350 crore. The lift came mainly from affordable festive wear that resonated with shoppers in Tier‑2 cities and smaller towns, where sales were three to five times the norm.

Large‑appliance sales also stayed strong. Televisions, refrigerators and air‑conditioners together made up more than two‑thirds of that segment, with 55‑inch TV models from TCL, LG, Samsung and Xiaomi dominating the top‑selling SKUs.

Overall, Redseer notes that the first half of 2026 already saw a 20‑plus‑percent rise in electronics sales, a trend that clearly spilled over into the festive window. The data paints a vivid picture of a market that is not only bigger but also more eager to spend online, perhaps anticipating price hikes later in the year.

As the season unfolds, analysts will be watching to see whether this early momentum can be sustained, but for now the numbers speak for themselves – Indian consumers are clearly comfortable clicking ‘Buy Now’ when the deals are right.
