Family Detention Claims Spark Controversy: Volunteer Alleges, Police Deny

Junaid, who volunteers with the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), has publicly alleged that several of his family members were taken into police custody without cause, supposedly over a two-day span from July 23rd to July 24th, 2026. It's a claim that, as you can imagine, has immediately been met with a firm and rather categorical denial from the police authorities in Meerut, who insist there’s absolutely no truth to these stories.

Mohd Junaid reportedly disseminated his assertions through social media channels, stating that his father, Mustafa, alongside his minor brother, sister's father-in-law, and brother-in-law, were all caught up in these alleged detentions. According to Junaid, these incidents unfolded primarily in Meerut. He further claimed that other relatives were also involved in a separate incident in Ghaziabad’s Nahal village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Masoori police station. These dramatic claims, once shared, quickly circulated, painting a disturbing picture of arbitrary police action affecting his family.

However, the response from Meerut's law enforcement has been swift and unwavering. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avinash Pandey has personally and emphatically refuted Junaid's allegations. SSP Pandey confirmed that the Meerut police force holds no record whatsoever of detaining any of Junaid’s family members during the specified period. He went on to explain that comprehensive checks were meticulously carried out across various police stations within the district, and unequivocally, not a single detention correlating with Junaid's claims was discovered. Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinayak Gopal Bhonsle reinforced this official stance, lending further weight to the assertion that these claims simply lack any factual basis within their operational area.

While Meerut police have been quite vocal in their denial, the situation surrounding the Ghaziabad aspect of Junaid's claims remains, shall we say, a bit murkier. Despite attempts, senior police officers in Ghaziabad could not be reached for comment regarding the alleged detentions in Nahal village or under the Masoori police station. This lack of official statement, naturally, leaves an unfortunate element of unresolved uncertainty hanging over that particular set of allegations. One might reasonably infer that the broader context of these claims is likely intertwined with Junaid's active role as a volunteer for CJP, an organization deeply involved in human rights advocacy.

So, as things stand, we are presented with a stark contrast: a CJP volunteer's very serious claims of family members being held by the authorities on one side, and a resolute, unequivocal denial from police officials on the other. This significant divergence highlights the inherent challenges in verifying such emotionally charged allegations, especially when official channels, at least in Meerut's case, yield no corroborating evidence.
