Empowering India's Women: Sitharaman Highlights Modi Government's Transformative Initiatives

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently asserted that the empowerment of women has consistently been a top priority for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a commitment deeply woven into the fabric of his government's policies. Speaking at a spirited 'Modi’s Guarantee' outreach program for women beneficiaries in Visakhapatnam, the Minister underscored the profound impact of various schemes designed to uplift women across the nation.

She highlighted the revolutionary Mudra Yojana, which has disbursed substantial loans, igniting the entrepreneurial spirit among women and fostering economic independence. The Ujjwala Yojana, providing clean cooking gas, was lauded for liberating women from the arduous and health-damaging task of collecting firewood, thereby enhancing their dignity and well-being.

The Minister also shed light on the Swachh Bharat Mission, emphasizing its crucial role in ensuring safety and dignity for women through the construction of household toilets.

Furthermore, the PM Awas Yojana, by prioritizing women as homeowners or co-owners, has provided them with unprecedented security and a strong stake in their family's future. Sitharaman passionately argued that these initiatives are not mere welfare measures but foundational pillars for building a 'Viksit Bharat' – a developed India by 2047 – with women at its very core.

Beyond economic and social initiatives, the government's dedication to women's rights has been manifested through significant legislative reforms.

The Minister pointed to the strengthening of anti-dowry laws, comprehensive amendments to criminal laws to ensure greater safety for women, and the pivotal abolition of Triple Talaq, which granted Muslim women long-awaited justice and equality. She also celebrated the landmark Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women's Reservation Bill), a testament to the government's unwavering commitment to increasing women's representation in legislative bodies.
