Elderly Driver’s Car Collides with Parked Bike in RK Puram – Motorcycle Dragged Nearly 100 Metres

On the night of September 17, 2026, just after 10 p.m., a routine drive turned into a shocking scene on Africa Avenue Road in Delhi’s RK Puram neighbourhood. A blue Honda Amaze, steered by 73‑year‑old Venu Gopal of Vasant Kunj, ploughed into a black motorcycle that was parked at the curb between Bhikaji Cama Place and the RK Puram Metro station.

The rider, 21‑year‑old Tanish Tokas from Munirka Village, was sitting on the bike when the impact knocked him off. The car’s front end caught the motorcycle and, in a disturbing display captured on a by‑stander's phone, dragged the two‑wheeler along the road for roughly a hundred metres. Sparks flickered, the bike’s rear wheel skidded, and a few startled on‑lookers could be seen shouting.

Thankfully, Tokas wasn’t pulled along with the car; he fell to the ground and, after a quick medical check, was found to have escaped any serious injury. The police later confirmed that his condition was stable and that he didn’t require hospitalisation.

Delhi police arrived at the scene around 10:22 p.m., seized the Honda Amaze, and took Gopal into custody. A routine breath‑alcohol test came back negative, and a medical examination ruled out intoxication. An FIR (No. 221/26) was registered at the RK Puram Police Station, invoking Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The incident quickly went viral after the video made rounds on social media, prompting many to comment on the “terrifying speed” of vehicles on Delhi’s streets. Authorities have said a detailed investigation is underway to piece together why the driver failed to notice the parked bike and how the vehicle managed to pull the motorcycle such a long distance.
