Eastern Montgomery County Hosts Prescription Drug Take‑Back Day

Free, Safe Medication Disposal Event This Saturday

Montgomery County, together with local police and community groups, is offering residents a convenient way to discard unwanted medicines on Saturday, October 24.

On Saturday, October 24, residents of eastern Montgomery County will have a chance to get rid of old pills, vitamins, pet meds and even vaping devices without any hassle. The state‑wide Prescription Drug Take‑Back Day rolls into town thanks to a partnership between the county, local law‑enforcement agencies and a handful of community coalitions.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a series of drop‑off sites will open their doors for drive‑through or walk‑in disposal. It’s completely free, it’s safe, and most importantly it helps keep our neighborhoods free of hazardous waste that can end up in the wrong hands.

What can you bring? Anything that’s a prescription medication, over‑the‑counter drug, vitamin supplement, pet medicine, or even a used JUUL‑type vaping device. If you have sharps or needles, look for the 30 designated collection points that accept them safely.

Some locations will also hand out Narcan (naloxone) at no charge, a reminder that the event isn’t just about cleaning out cabinets but also about promoting public health and preventing accidental poisonings or substance misuse.

Here’s where you can drop off your items:

  • Abington Township Police Department – 1166 Old York Road, Abington
  • Ambler Police Department – 131 Rosemary Ave., Ambler
  • Bryn Athyn Police Department – 2825 Buck Road, Bryn Athyn
  • Cheltenham Police Department – 125 Royal Avenue, Wyncote
  • Hatboro Police Department – 120 East Montgomery Ave., Hatboro
  • Horsham Police Department – 1025 Horsham Road, Horsham
  • Jenkintown Police Department – 700 Summit Ave., Jenkintown
  • Lower Moreland Township Police Department – 640 Red Lion Road, Huntingdon Valley
  • Upper Dublin Township Police Department – 803 Loch Alsh Avenue

Take a few minutes, bring the meds you no longer need, and walk away feeling good about doing your part for a safer community. If you missed the news, you can always sign up for Patch’s free newsletters to stay in the loop on local events.
