DUSU Election 2025: ABVP Sweeps Key Posts, NSUI Secures One Amidst Intense Student Electoral Battle

The vibrant and often tumultuous political landscape of Delhi University once again captured national attention as the results for the much-anticipated Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) Elections 2025 were declared. After a fierce contest characterized by passionate campaigns, fiery debates, and a record turnout of student voters, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) emerged as the dominant force, securing three out of the four coveted central panel posts.

However, the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) managed to break ABVP’s clean sweep by clinching the crucial Joint Secretary position, signaling a resilient fight from the Congress-affiliated student wing.

The counting process, which began early morning amidst tight security and heightened anticipation at the Community Hall, proved to be a nail-biter.

Supporters from all major student organizations – ABVP, NSUI, and various Left-backed groups – gathered outside, their cheers and chants echoing as each round of counting brought them closer to the final outcome. The air was thick with excitement and anxiety, a testament to the high stakes of student politics in one of India's most prestigious universities.

In a significant victory, ABVP’s Aryan Sharma was elected as the DUSU President, securing a commanding lead of over 6,250 votes against his closest rival from NSUI, Rohan Kumar.

This win marks a continuation of ABVP’s influence at the helm of DUSU, reinforcing their popular appeal among a large section of the student body. Their campaign, which focused on issues such as hostel accommodation, improved campus facilities, and examination reforms, clearly resonated with the electorate.

The Vice President's post also went to ABVP, with Priya Singh triumphing by a margin of 4,100 votes.

Similarly, the Secretary position was secured by ABVP’s Amit Yadav, who defeated his nearest competitor from the Left Alliance by 3,550 votes. These consecutive victories underscored ABVP's meticulous organizational strategy and strong grassroots connect across various colleges affiliated with Delhi University.

However, the NSUI delivered a powerful counter-punch by winning the Joint Secretary post.

Sneha Gupta of NSUI emerged victorious, narrowly defeating ABVP's candidate Pooja Mishra by a margin of just 1,120 votes. This hard-fought win for NSUI is particularly significant as it prevents a complete whitewash by ABVP and provides a platform for the party to voice student concerns from within the DUSU central panel.

It also suggests that despite ABVP's overall dominance, there remains a considerable segment of students who align with NSUI's ideology and agenda.

Left-backed student organizations, including AISA and SFI, while not securing any central panel posts, demonstrated their presence and garnered a significant number of votes, especially in specific colleges and faculties.

Their campaigns focused on social justice, inclusivity, and affordability of education, keeping critical issues at the forefront of the electoral discourse. While they couldn't translate their efforts into a victory on the central panel, their consistent performance indicates a strong ideological base and influence among a segment of the students.

The DUSU elections are often seen as a barometer of youth sentiment and a microcosm of national politics.

The 2025 results, with ABVP's strong performance, reflect a continued trend of conservative student politics finding resonance.
