Drunken Passenger Attempts to Breach Cockpit on Air India Express Flight, Sparks Mid-Boarding Alarm

In a startling incident that sent ripples through the aviation community, an Air India Express flight bound for Varanasi from Bengaluru witnessed a dramatic security breach attempt during its boarding phase. On December 17, 2023, passengers and crew on flight IX-1135 were left in disbelief when a 30-year-old male passenger, identified as Amod Kumar, allegedly attempted to open the cockpit door.

According to reports, Kumar, described as being in an inebriated state, mistook the critical access point to the aircraft's control center for the lavatory door.

The alarming attempt occurred while the aircraft was still on the ground at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport, moments before its scheduled departure.

The highly trained Air India Express crew reacted with remarkable swiftness and professionalism. Recognizing the grave potential threat posed by such an action, they immediately intervened, preventing the passenger from fully opening the cockpit door.

Their quick thinking and adherence to safety protocols averted what could have been a far more serious incident.

Following the immediate intervention, the unruly passenger was promptly detained by the crew and subsequently handed over to airport security personnel. Air India Express confirmed the incident and stated that the passenger was offloaded from the flight, ensuring the safety and peace of mind of other passengers and crew members.

The airline did not waste time in pursuing formal action.

A complaint was lodged with the relevant authorities against Amod Kumar for his disruptive and potentially dangerous behavior. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was also duly informed of the incident, as is standard procedure for such security breaches.

Despite the disruption, flight IX-1135 eventually departed for Varanasi, albeit with a slight delay, ensuring passengers reached their destination.
