Drama Unfolds in Delhi Hotel: Foreign National Self-Harms After Being Denied Free Room

You know how sometimes things just spiral out of control, especially when you're far from home and perhaps not in the best state of mind? Well, that seems to be the gist of a rather concerning incident that unfolded early Tuesday morning in the bustling Paharganj area of Delhi. A 35-year-old foreign national, later identified as Viktor Vasilevich from Russia, found himself in a hospital bed after allegedly self-harming right there in a hotel.

It all began, apparently, when Vasilevich arrived at Hotel Prem Paradise, located in the rather busy Main Bazar area, sometime around 12:30 AM. He made a request that, to be fair, isn't usually granted – he asked for a room, completely free of charge. Predictably, the hotel staff, running a business after all, politely declined his unusual demand. And that's when, according to initial reports and the police, things took a pretty dark turn.

Instead of simply leaving or finding another place, Vasilevich allegedly pulled out a knife. Can you imagine the shock of the hotel staff witnessing something like that? He then reportedly proceeded to inflict injuries upon himself, cutting both his wrist and neck. It must have been a truly horrifying scene for everyone present. The hotel management, undoubtedly shaken, wasted no time and immediately alerted the local police.

Officers from the Paharganj police station quickly arrived at the scene. They found the man injured and, without delay, got him admitted to the nearest medical facility, LNJP Hospital. Thankfully, despite the nature of his injuries, his condition has been reported as stable. A sigh of relief, I'm sure, for everyone involved.

Now, the police are looking into the whole affair, trying to piece together exactly what led to such a drastic act. Their initial assessment suggests that the man might have been suffering from some form of mental distress, or perhaps was under the influence of something at the time. As of now, no formal case has been registered. The investigation, as they say, is still very much underway. It's just another reminder, isn't it, of the unpredictable turns life can take, sometimes in the most unexpected places.
