Dowry Harassment Allegations Rock Kannada Film Fraternity: Filmmaker S. Narayan and Family Under Scrutiny

Renowned Kannada filmmaker S. Narayan and his family are currently embroiled in a significant legal controversy, as his daughter-in-law, Deepa, has filed a dowry harassment complaint against her husband, Pankaj, along with Narayan himself, his wife, and his other daughter. This serious accusation marks a tumultuous period for the celebrated director, known for his impactful contributions to Kannada cinema.

Deepa's complaint, registered at the Women's Police Station in Bengaluru's High Grounds, outlines a disturbing pattern of alleged mental and physical harassment at the hands of her husband, Pankaj.

More gravely, she claims her in-laws, including S. Narayan, demanded an exorbitant dowry of Rs 1 crore and a luxury vehicle, specifically a Mercedes Benz or BMW. This demand allegedly came despite Deepa bringing substantial assets into the marriage on December 12, 2021, including 1.5 kilograms of gold, 10 kilograms of silver, and Rs 5 lakh in cash.

This is not the first time Deepa and Pankaj's relationship has led to legal intervention.

Prior to the current dowry harassment case, Deepa had filed a complaint with the cybercrime police. In that instance, she accused Pankaj of uploading her private photographs, leading to his arrest. Pankaj was subsequently released on bail, but the incident highlighted pre-existing tensions within the marriage.

Narayan expressed profound shock and vehemently denied any involvement in the dowry demands. Speaking to the media, he stated, "Deepa has left my son. I have nothing to do with this. We gave her everything she wanted." He also mentioned that his family is currently in Mumbai, while he remains in Bengaluru.

Narayan reiterated his shock over the new complaint, implying that he believes the allegations are unfounded.
