Dolphins Shake Up Practice Squad, Plus Key Updates on Cornerbacks and Former Stars

The Miami Dolphins continue to fine-tune their roster as the NFL season progresses, making a strategic move at the cornerback position while also providing clarity on several key players, both current and former.

In a recent transaction, the Dolphins parted ways with cornerback Ethan Bonner, releasing him from the practice squad.

This move signals a shift in priorities, as the team promptly filled the vacated spot by signing defensive end Ethan Westbrooks to the practice squad. Westbrooks, a veteran with experience from the Rams, Jets, and 49ers, brings depth and a proven presence to the defensive line, potentially addressing a need as the season wears on.

Fans have also been eager for updates on former Dolphins safety Byron Jones, who was released earlier this year.

Despite reports that Jones had passed a physical in the spring, he remains unsigned in free agency. This situation underscores the significant financial impact of his previous contract; even though he's no longer with the team, Jones still accounts for a substantial $13.5 million cap hit for the Dolphins in 2023, the highest dead money charge in the NFL.
