Diwali Tragedy: Son Arrested for Mother's Gruel Death in Chandigarh

A dark shadow fell over the festive spirit of Diwali in Chandigarh as a chilling act of violence unfolded, leaving a community in shock. Gurdhyan Singh, a 30-year-old resident of Sector 40, stands accused of brutally murdering his 55-year-old mother, Daljit Kaur, in their home on the auspicious night.

The incident, which has sent shivers down the spine of residents, reportedly occurred after an altercation between the son and his mother.

While the exact motive remains under investigation, initial reports suggest that arguments over domestic issues were a recurring feature in their household. On that fateful Saturday night, these disputes escalated to a horrifying degree.

Neighbors, drawn by the sounds of desperate screams emanating from the house, immediately alerted the police.

Officers from the Sector 39 police station swiftly arrived at the scene, only to discover a tragic spectacle: Daljit Kaur lying in a pool of blood, bearing severe stab wounds and a slit throat, indicative of a savage attack. She was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead upon arrival, succumbing to her horrific injuries.

The police wasted no time, apprehending Gurdhyan Singh from the scene.

The primary weapon used in the gruesome crime, a knife, was also recovered by the authorities. A case of murder has been registered against him under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, and he is currently in police custody as investigations proceed.
