Dan Koh, a familiar face in political circles, especially from his time working with President Biden and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, has successfully clinched the Democratic nomination. This isn't just any primary win, mind you; it sets the stage for what could be a truly historic moment for the Commonwealth, as Koh would become the first Asian American elected to Congress from Massachusetts.

On Tuesday, September 2, 2026, the voters of the 6th District, which stretches across communities like Newburyport, Nahant, Tewksbury, and Bedford, cast their ballots. Koh, a descendent of Korean and Lebanese immigrants who currently lives on the North Shore with his wife, Amy, and their children, Theodora and Jack, celebrated his victory in Peabody, Massachusetts. He secured a robust 41% of the vote, totaling 47,326 votes. His closest competitor, State Representative Tram Nguyen, garnered about 29.5%, or 33,991 votes. That's a pretty clear lead, an 11.6 percentage point margin, demonstrating solid support for Koh's campaign.

This isn't Koh's first foray into congressional races. Back in 2018, he narrowly missed out on an open House seat in the 3rd Congressional District, losing to now-Rep. Lori Trahan in what was a fiercely contested primary. But this time around, the landscape looks considerably brighter. He came into this race with significant endorsements, including a powerful nod from President Joe Biden himself, along with Vice President Kamala Harris and his former boss, Marty Walsh, the ex-Boston Mayor and Labor Secretary.

While these individuals put up a fight, Koh's deep experience and strong connections ultimately resonated most with voters.

Looking ahead, the 6th Congressional District leans heavily Democratic, making Koh the undeniable favorite for the general election. His Republican opponent will be Micah Jones, an Army veteran and lawyer who, notably, ran unopposed in the GOP primary. With incumbent U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton vacating the seat to pursue a run for the U.S. Senate, this open race offered a golden opportunity, and Koh has certainly seized it.
