Cyclonic Circulation Set to Bring Heavy Rain Across Odisha From Sept 9

​Bhubaneswar – The weather office is keeping a close eye on a developing cyclonic circulation that could appear over north Odisha on the night of September 8. Dr. Sarat Sahu, a senior meteorological scientist, told reporters that while the system is unlikely to strengthen into a full‑blown low‑pressure area, its peripheral effects will nonetheless drench large parts of the state with rain for the next few days.

​In practical terms, this means residents of districts that hug the Jharkhand and West Bengal borders – think Jajpur, Balasore, Debagarh, Kendujhar and Sundargarh – should brace for steady showers, with isolated spots possibly seeing heavy downpours. The forecast highlights a noticeable uptick in rainfall activity from September 9 onward.

​On September 10, the model runs point to especially wet conditions in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj. By the following day, the rain band is expected to spread, touching both northern and southern zones of Odisha, so even coastal areas won’t be spared.

​As of Sunday, a light to moderate drizzle has already been recorded in several corners of the state. Baripada logged 17.8 mm of rain, while scattered showers peppered Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Kendrapara. These early drops are a clear sign that the moisture-laden system is on its way.

​Authorities advise people to stay updated with local bulletins, avoid low‑lying areas prone to flooding, and secure any loose objects that could be affected by strong gusts. Farmers, too, are urged to protect crops where possible, as the rain could be both a boon and a risk depending on intensity.
