Cyclonic Circulation Forms Over North Thailand – Could Shift Toward South Odisha Coast

On Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) flagged a new upper‑air cyclonic circulation blooming over north Thailand. At 08:30 am local time, the system was already perched about 7.6 km above mean sea level, a modest but noticeable swirl in the otherwise calm sky.

According to the latest outlook, this nascent cyclone is expected to slip into the northern part of the Andaman Sea by the evening of 18 September. Once there, the IMD predicts a low‑pressure area will start to take shape by the following evening, 19 September.

From that point onward, the weather bureau says the system could gradually intensify, nudging west‑northwestwards. If the model holds true, we may see it edging toward the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coasts over the next three to four days. That doesn’t mean an immediate disaster, but residents along those shores are being advised to stay alert.

The IMD is keeping a close eye on the evolving situation, promising further updates as the pattern unfolds. In the meantime, anyone planning travel or outdoor activities in the coastal districts of southern Odisha should keep an eye on local bulletins and be prepared for possible changes in wind and rain.

While the cyclonic system is still several days away from making landfall, its trajectory underscores how interconnected weather patterns are across the Bay of Bengal region. A swirl that begins over Thailand can, within a matter of days, influence weather on the other side of the sea.
