ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are up to their old playoff tricks . A postseason opportunity is ight in front of them, and they're coming up remarkably, unbelievably small. Their season is hanging off the edge a cliff. Dak Prescott has thrown two first half interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown by Darnell Savage.
He's completed 13 of 21 passes for 87 yards, 1 touchdown and the two picks. His passer rating is 47.2. Jordan Love has scorched the Dallas defense, completing 13 of 16 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown. Aaron Jones has run for two scores and 30 yards. Green Bay punched the Cowboys in the mouth on their opening possession, driving 75 yards in 12 plays for the game's opening touchdown.
Love was effective at extending the play, in particular on a 22 yard connection with Romeo Doubs over the middle, to get the Packers to their own 49. Then it was a steady diet of Jones to finish the drive. He carried for 3, 4, 13, 5, and for a 3 yard touchdown over the final nine plays of the drive, as Green Bay took a 7 0 lead.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys offense couldn't get things rolling over the first 20 minutes of the contest, getting just one first down before having to punt on their opening possession, and then seeing Prescott throw an interception on the third play of their second possession. Jaire Alexander was in a hand fight with Brandin Cooks on a slant route, and Alexander won the fight and snagged the interception at the Dallas 19.
Three plays later, the Packers were in the endzone again. A Love to Doubs connection got them to the one yard line, on a rope over the middle to pick up 15 yards. Then Jones plunged in again from a yard away, to give the Packers a 14 0 advantage, just 45 seconds into the second quarter. The Cowboys best drive of the first half advanced to the Green Bay 47 yard line.
Three first downs, and 39 yards gained over a 9 play drive. But it stalled, as a 3rd & 5 saw Prescott get sacked. If he'd thrown it away, Dallas could have tried a 54 yard field goal. Instead, Dallas had to punt. Green Bay kept their foot on the gas. A 93 yard touchdown drive that featured more Love roasting the Cowboys defense.
He hit Tucker Kraft on a perfect ball to convert a 3rd & 1 with a 10 yard pickup. He hit Doubs again for a 39 yard gain to the Dallas 35. And then, when the Cowboys sent the blitz at him on a 3rd & 7 at the Dallas 20, he rocked back on his back foot and fired a missile to Dontayvion Wicks for a touchdown and a 20 0 Packers lead.
Then Prescott threw the pick 6 to Savage, to give Green Bay a 27 0 lead. Dallas drove 55 yards over the final 1:50 of the second quarter, finally getting in the endzone as the quarter clock expired. Prescott hit Jake Ferguson to cap the drive, and make it 27 7 at the break..
