Congress Unleashes Scathing Attack: 'Cowardly Kowtowing' to China After Modi-Xi Talks

In a blistering political offensive, the Congress party has launched a scathing attack on the Indian government, accusing it of "cowardly kowtowing" to China following recent talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The principal opposition party expressed profound disappointment and alarm over what it perceives as a weak and submissive stance by the Modi administration on critical border issues, particularly concerning the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Senior Congress leaders did not mince words, characterizing the government's approach as a betrayal of national interest and a dangerous capitulation to Beijing.

They highlighted the absence of any concrete outcomes regarding the restoration of the status quo ante 2020 in eastern Ladakh, a key demand reiterated by India in numerous rounds of military and diplomatic talks. "This is not merely a diplomatic misstep; it is a shameful act of kowtowing that undermines India's sovereignty and strategic position," declared a prominent Congress spokesperson.

The party's criticism stems from the widely reported informal interactions between the two leaders, which, according to the Congress, lacked the necessary firmness and assertiveness to address the ongoing Chinese transgressions.

The opposition demanded a clear explanation from the government on the specifics of the discussions and questioned why the Prime Minister failed to publicly raise the issue of Chinese occupation of Indian territory with the vigor it warranted.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Congress leaders recalled the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes and the subsequent military build-up along the LAC.

They argued that any dialogue with China must unequivocally prioritize the complete disengagement of Chinese troops from all friction points and a return to pre-April 2020 positions. The lack of such assurances following the recent talks has fueled the opposition's charges of governmental weakness and a perceived abdication of responsibility.
