CJP Activists Freed After Posting Rs 50,000 Surety in Delhi

Three CJP leaders released on bail after preventive arrest

Delhi Police released Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das after they posted a Rs 50,000 surety bond, ending a short‑term preventive custody.

On Sunday, Delhi Police announced that three senior members of the Cockroach Janata Party – Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das – walked out of preventive custody after posting a surety bond of Rs 50,000 each. The trio had been taken into custody the day before, ostensibly to head off any disturbance that could arise ahead of a planned protest against the Chief Election Commissioner.

According to the police’s post on X, the arrests were made under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). After the arrests on 10 October 2026, the men were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) Court at Delhi Cantonment on 11 October, where the bond was accepted and they were released.

The surety, described as a “bond for maintaining peace and good behaviour for one year,” essentially means the three activists must steer clear of any activity that could be deemed a threat to public tranquility for the next twelve months. The court’s order was clear: any breach could trigger revocation of the bond and possible re‑arrest.

Section 126 of the BNSS gives an Executive Magistrate the power to demand a peace‑keeping bond from anyone who appears likely to disturb public order. Meanwhile, Section 170 authorises police to make a warrant‑less arrest when they have credible knowledge of a design to commit a cognizable offence, provided the detention does not exceed 24 hours unless further legal justification is found.

Having been taken into custody straight from their flight into the capital, the activists were promptly escorted to the Delhi Cantt police station. Their release, however, does not mark the end of the story. The CJP has scheduled a press conference for 2 PM the same day, promising to address the media and outline its next steps following the brief detention.

At the briefing, CJP National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka told ANI, “We will hold a press conference at 2 PM,” signalling that the party intends to keep the momentum of its protest alive despite the police intervention.
