Charges Laid as Deceased Suspect Identified in Rosedale Active Shooter Homicide

Calgary police have made significant advancements in the investigation into last month's harrowing active shooter situation in Rosedale, identifying the deceased suspect and laying charges against a woman connected to the case. Andrew Aaron Berg, 31, has been confirmed as the individual found deceased at the scene, with his death officially ruled a homicide.

In connection to this complex investigation, 35-year-old Jessica Anne Roy now faces serious charges.

Roy has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder, along with one count of possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl). These charges shed new light on the events of April 10, 2024, which initially plunged the northwest Calgary community into a state of emergency.

The incident began at approximately 3:45 p.m.

that day, when multiple calls flooded emergency lines reporting an active shooter in the 1500 block of 26 Street N.W. The reports triggered an immediate and robust response from Calgary Police Service, including the deployment of tactical units, patrol officers, and the HAWCS helicopter, all converging on the scene.

Amidst the developing crisis, a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents in Rosedale and the adjacent community of Crescent Heights, urging them to remain indoors for their safety.

The intense lockdown continued for hours until approximately 8 p.m., when authorities confirmed the incident had concluded, with one man — now identified as Andrew Aaron Berg — found deceased.
