Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Darrell’s early years set the stage for a life of purpose.

He answered the call of duty, proudly serving his nation in the United States Air Force, a testament to his commitment and strength of character. Following his distinguished military service, Darrell embarked on a successful career as a stockbroker, a profession he pursued with diligence and integrity.

In 1968, he made the pivotal move to California, where he built a beautiful life and left an indelible mark on his community.

Darrell was a man of diverse passions. An ardent traveler, he particularly reveled in the joy of ocean cruises, exploring new horizons with his beloved wife, Sandy. He found immense pleasure on the golf course, perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of friends.

When not traveling or golfing, Darrell could often be found engrossed in a good book, tackling a challenging crossword puzzle, or passionately cheering on his favorite team, the Dodgers. His zest for life was infectious, and his hobbies reflected a man who embraced every moment.

Beyond his accomplishments and interests, Darrell’s greatest legacy lies in the love he shared with his family.

He was the devoted husband of Sandy, a partnership built on mutual respect and unwavering affection. Together, they navigated life's journey, creating a loving home filled with warmth and laughter. Darrell was a cherished father to his children, Deborah Schmidt (who preceded him in death), Denise Nelson and her husband Bruce, and David Schmidt and his wife Julie.

He was a doting grandfather to Justin, Ashley, Tyler, and Rachel, and a proud great-grandfather, delighting in the joy of the younger generations. His gentle guidance, unwavering support, and infectious sense of humor were treasures to all who knew him.
